As the story unfolds, people turn up who play themselves, while others like Holland Taylor, play characters. If you have trouble following this, we suggest you eat a gummy.

A DIFFERENT WORLD

If it seems like everyone in Hollywood is going back to the roles they played 40 years ago, that’s because it is true. Here we go again, this time with a reboot of the hit show that aired from 1987 to 1993 about Black students making their way through college in a HBCU. The kids are newcomers, with Maleah Joi Moon playing the daughter of original stars Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy, who are also back, along with Glynn Turman and other familiar faces.

LINE OF FIRE

Peter Krause leaves “9-1-1” behind for this new law enforcement show that centers on generations of a family that are all enmeshed in catching criminals. With parents and kids who are FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals and other crimefighters, the plot of this one sweeps up the whole family into a morass of criminal intrigue as the season develops. Hope Davis, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom and Kat Cunning round out the family unit.

MOBLAND (Season 2)

MobLand is such a terrific crime family saga that we just have to talk about its return with the second season. With Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren chewing the scenery as the heads of the brutally ruthless Harrigan crime family and Tom Hardy back as their reluctant fixer, this one’s the continuation of season one’s wild ride. Plus, Guy Ritchie brings his fast-paced original style as producer and director back this season, too, so we’re all in for this one.

MONSTER: THE LIZZIE BORDEN STORY

Producer Ryan Murphy is back with another “Monster” true murder story, after doing seasons about Dahmer, the Menendez brothers and Gein. This one returns to the 1890s to explore the true tale of Lizzy Borden, the Massachusetts woman accused of murdering her parents. With Ella Beatty as Lizzy, Charlie Hunnam as her father, Rebecca Hall as her mother and Billie Lourd as her sister, this one’s set to remind a new generation of the oft-told mystery that surrounds that dastardly deed.
