The Berkshires Take Center Stage
A Music-Filled Escape Through Western Massachusetts
In 2026, the Berkshires will once again strike a memorable chord with travelers, offering a season of music, culture and scenic discovery across Western Massachusetts. From classical performances at Tanglewood to jazz, opera, indie rock and intimate live venues, the region invites visitors to turn a concert calendar into a true cultural getaway.

A Season In The Hills
Long known as one of the Northeast’s most treasured cultural destinations, the Berkshires continue to offer the rare combination of natural beauty, small-town charm and world-class performance. Less than three hours from both New York City and Boston, the region makes an ideal long-weekend escape for travelers looking to pair music with mountain views, historic inns, acclaimed restaurants and year-round outdoor adventure.
For 2026, 1Berkshire is spotlighting a wide-ranging music season that moves easily from classical masterworks to contemporary experimentation, jazz, indie rock and immersive performance experiences. The result is a calendar that feels less like a single festival season and more like a region-wide celebration of sound.

Tanglewood & The Classics
At the center of the Berkshires’ musical identity is Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Lenox. Its 2026 season, running from June through September, promises classical excellence alongside popular programming, with appearances by Yuja Wang, Augustin Hadelich and Laurie Anderson, as well as concerts by James Taylor and his All-Star Band, Carrie Underwood, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Ziggy Marley with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, and more. The Festival of Contemporary Music also returns, curated this summer by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Festival Energy
North Adams will once again draw music lovers to MASS MoCA when Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival returns June 26–28, 2026. Conceived by Wilco and co-produced by Higher Ground Presents, the festival blends headline performances with a broader lineup that includes The Breeders, Gang of Four, Billy Bragg, S.G. Goodman, L’Rain and more. Also at MASS MoCA, the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival runs July 13 through August 2, culminating in the high-energy LOUD Weekend.
Jazz, Opera & Intimate Stages
Jazz takes the spotlight in Pittsfield with the 20th Annual Pittsfield CityJazz Festival, running April 17–25, 2026, with a theme centered on women in jazz and headline concerts by Georgia Heers, Grace Kelly and Veronica Swift. Opera lovers can look to the Berkshire Opera Festival at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, which returns with Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
Beyond the marquee names, music remains woven into daily life throughout the region. The Lion’s Den at The Red Lion Inn offers intimate live performances in Stockbridge, Barrington Hall brings concerts and open mic nights to Great Barrington, and The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield continues to present concert events and special performances. Outdoor music also spills into warmer months at beloved cultural destinations including The Clark, The Mount and Naumkeag.
Plan Your Escape
For travelers, the Berkshires offer more than a ticketed event. They offer a complete getaway—picturesque towns, mountain landscapes, food culture, lodging options and a cultural scene that rivals far larger cities. Between performances, visitors can explore galleries, browse independent shops, enjoy seasonal dining, or unwind at historic inns and countryside retreats. Outdoor enthusiasts can add hiking, scenic drives, garden visits and museum stops to the itinerary, making the region as rewarding by day as it is after the curtain rises.
